Writers are being sought by Ten Days on the Island to tell the stories of Tasmania’s most storied halls. The literary compositions would accompany If These Halls Could Talk initiative of the 2021 festival. Artistic director Lindy Hume said the initiative was a wonderful way to connect and celebrate Tasmania’s regions during this extraordinary time, and to hear from locals who have shared with us the stories embedded in their hall, their community and each of the ten chosen localities. “Now, in collaboration with Island Magazine, commissioning 10 Tasmanian writers in response to If These Halls Could Talk further amplifies the cultural legacy of the this project,” she said. “We’re excited to put this call out, and hope to hear from diverse voices from across Tasmania.” Halls included in the project are the Portland Memorial Hall at St Helens, the Rowella Hall and the Mechanics Institute at Scottsdale. Applications close August 31 – for more information visit islandmag.com.
