The Studio Space Theatre Company has produced We’re all in this together, a video for the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival that focuses on people with disabilities. The festival asked filmmakers to focus on the ability of those with disabilities and tell their stories through the medium of film. Artistic director of Studio Space Gerard Lane said the film was not just about those with disabilities, but the whole community. “It’s not just about disability, it’s about everybody,” he said. “It’s a community facing adversity and realising we are all in this together.” Mr Lane said producing the video also kept up moral during the pandemic and was an opportunity for people to connect during isolation. In other news: “One of the side effects of some people’s disability is they feel anxiety very strongly so as it was happening there was this real sense of fear,” he said. “Having that connection in the community and in our drama class it was something to look forward to.” Mr Lane said it took months to get the music rights to Ben Lee’s We’re All In This Together, but it was worth it. According to Mr Lane the video has reached audiences far and wide with it viewed across Australia and also in 12 different countries. To watch the video and vote for it in the festival visit: www.focusonability.com.au/FOA/open-entrant-short-films.html.
