Robert Forbes Young has beat out former mayor and current councillor Cheryl Arnold in a mayoral byelection at Glamorgan Spring Bay.
Mr Forbes Young also won the byelection for the position of councillor which means he will be able to take up office.
The two byelections were called after former mayor Debbie Wisby resigned earlier this year.

At the time of her resignation Ms Wisby said unfair criticism was affecting her health.
The council has faced multiple controversies this year after Ms Wisby was accused of bullying and harassment and general manager Chris Schroeder was forced to resign.
The challenges culminated in the council being issued a performance improvement directive by the Local Government Minister for failing to comply with the Local Government Act.
After preferences, Mr Forbes Young was left with 50.57 per cent of the vote.
The byelection process was contentious throughout the community with reports of people spreading misinformation.
It prompted the Electoral Commission to release a statement correcting the confusion.
Mr Forbes Young will take up office alongside a new general manager, who will be the council’s fifth in a year, later this month.
