A Tasmanian Liberal senator embroiled in a controversy over comments she made about transgender women has written to the state’s Anti-Discrimination Commissioner imploring her to reject a complaint.
The subject of the complaint to Equal Opportunity Tasmania is an opinion piece Claire Chandler wrote, appearing in a News Corp paper.

In it, she said women’s sports, women’s toilets and women’s changerooms were designed for people of the female sex and should remain so.
“My respectful view is that you should dismiss this complaint in its entirety,” she wrote to Anti-Discrimination Commissioner Sarah Bolt.
Equality Tasmania spokesperson Charlie Burton said the senator should “sit down and talk with transgender Tasmanians and our families and friends … so she can understand the damage that language can cause to vulnerable Tasmanians”.
